According a statement of the CEO of the budget airline, David O’Brien, on RTV North Holland. The statement is remarkable because earlier this year Lelystad Airport denied any talks with Ryanair. Also the owner of Schiphol was not able to mention even one name of a company that would be interested in using Lelystad Airport after its expansion.
Thanks to the expansion, flights with larger aircraft will be possible from 2018. Initially 5000 flights per year; on terms growth up to 12.000 flights per year is possible.
Night flights will not be allowed at Lelystad. O’Brien calls the number of flights from Lelystad a “laugh”. Starting at 13 to 14 flights a day. O’Brien says that Ryanair already is capable of executing 60 flights a day from Lelystad.
Ryanair is not the only airline that wants to use Lelystad. According to Trouw also the smaller AIS Airlines from Lelystad wants to use the runway. AIS now only carries out flights in Sweden and Germany.
